BATON ROUGE — Central High School senior Trevor Sansone, the Central Flyer, will accept a scholarship to run track at LSU in ceremonies Friday morning, March 18 at the Central High gym.  Sansone won the State Indoor Track Division I Championship in the 55-meter dash three weeks ago at LSU.  His time of 6.35 seconds set an all-time record in the Division I State Championship meet.

The time places him with the 5th best time among high school runners in the nation so far in 2011.

Last year, Sansone came in 2nd in the indoor championships when his foot crossed the finish line ahead of the other s but his head was slightly behind the winner.

The Central native is the defending state 5A outdoor champion in the 100 meters.  LSU track coach Dennis Shaver saw Sansone win the 55-meter dash and said he was favorably impressed.

The Central High star last week turned down a football scholarship to the University of Louisiana Lafayette.  Family members say Sansone has always been interested in running track for LSU.  While  the track program at LSU has only a handful of scholarships available each year, the Central Flash is an outstanding student and qualifies for the TOPS scholarship program.  So he can attend any Louisiana school tuition free.

Central’s spring outdoor track season begins March 1 in Zachary.
