DETAILS

The City of Central, which was incorporated in 2005, is located about 12 miles northeast of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The 2010 population of the City of Central was 26,864, which makes it the largest municipality in the 15 parishes surrounding the City of Baton Rouge.

The Central City News is a community newspaper (circulation 14,000) serving the residents of the City of Central and the surrounding area.  The circulation of the Central City News compares favorably to that of The Advocate, the daily newspaper based in Baton Rouge, which has a circulation of about 2,500 inside the City of Central.

The City of Central is a shopping hub for other suburban communities in northern East Baton Rouge Parish and northwest Livingston Parish. Two miles to the west of Central is the City of Baker (2010 population 13,895).  Two miles to the northwest is the City of Zachary (2010 population 14,960).  To the north are the rural communities of Chaneyville, Pride, and Baywood (estimated 2010 populuation 7,000).  Just across the Amite River to the east is the community of Watson (estimated 2010 population 20,000).   Many residents of these areas do their shopping in Central, especially those to the north and east, because they must commute through Central every day on their way to jobs in Baton Rouge.

The Central City News was founded on Thursday, April 21, 2005, during the movement to incorporate the City of Central.  It is published on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from January though July and weekly from the 2nd Thursday of August through the 4th Thursday of December each year.

The Central Leader began publication on April 30, 1998.  The Central City News and the Central Leader merged on May 6, 2006, and continue to be published under the banner Central City News & The Leader.

The Central City News is published by Community Press, LLC, which also publishes the Central Community Directory & Yellow Pages, an annual 116-page telephone directory, and Liberty Today, a national conservative newspaper.
