Central City News to Broadcast 21 Central High Baseball Games

The Central City News will resume its live coverage of Central High baseball this spring and plans to broadcast at least 21 regular season games in February, March, and April.

The newspaper began its coverage of live sporting events with live coverage of Central High’s State Championship game in May 2017. That game, which was broadcast on Facebook Live, drew more than 94,000 viewers, according to Facebook.  In the fall of 2017, the Central City News began broadcasting Central High football live. That year, the viewership of Central High football averaged between 15,000 and 20,000 viewers per game.

In the spring of 2018, the Central City News broadcast about 30 Central High baseball games, leading up to the state finals. Baseball averaged 10,000 to 15,000 viewers per game. The newspaper broadcast Central High School football live again in the 2018 and 2019 seasons with audience sizes slightly increased.

Last spring, the Central City News broadcast 30 college basketball and baseball games for Baton Rouge Community College.

This year, the newspaper will resume its play-by-play coverage of Central High baseball.

Central City News editor Woody Jenkins, the Voice of the Wildcats, said he’s looking forward to resuming coverage of Central High baseball. “We enjoyed broadcasting BRCC but honestly it’s hard to match the enthusiasm and excitement of baseball at Central High School. In addition, we think the Wildcats may be headed for another great year and we want to be part of it!”

Central businesses interested in sponsoring the live broadcast of Central High baseball should call Woody Jenkins at 225-921-1433 or email him at centralcitynews@hotmail.com.

The first broadcast will be Central vs. Central Private on Feb. 18.
