Five Vie for Baton Rouge City Judge

Three Democratic candidates and one Republican made the case for their candidacies for Baton Rouge City Judge at the Candidates Forum held Jan. 28 by the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge Parish.

The election to fill a vacancy on the court left by the election of Judge Tarvald Smith to the District Court will be held Saturday, April 4, with a runoff if necessary on May 9. Candidates speaking at the forum were Donald Dobbins, Johnell Matthews, Whitney Higginbotham Greene, and Jonathan Holloway. Unable to attend was Greg Cooke, who had a court appearance in another parish.

All of the candidates are Democrats except Greene, who is a Republican. Dobbins has been endorsed by the Democratic Party and Greene is expected to be endorsed by the Republican Party.

The election is citywide and a majority of voters are Democrats.
