Central High Football Had Banner 8-3 Season

The 2019 Central High football season is now history, and for Coach Sid Edwards it is filled with fond memories. The Wildcats had a good year, finishing 8-3 but there’s more to it than that.

“This is the finest group of seniors I’ve ever had,” Coach Sid said. “Before the season started, this team was disrespected. They were predicted to go 3-7 and finish sixth in a six-team district.  What led them to success was high character and consistently playing over their heads.”

“We often lined up against teams with more talent, but that usually didn’t matter,” he said. He pointed to senior Isaiah Rankins to prove his point. “Here’s a young man who’s 5-7 and weighs 155. Yet, he ran for 1,300 yards!”

Coach Sid noted that eight Wildcats were named to first team All-District and seven to second team All-District, filling 15 of the 22 slots. Two of their losses were by a total of six points. It is a team to remember, the veteran coach said.
