Central Wildcats End Season As Regional 5A Champions

Victory was within Central’s grasp with one minute left in last Friday’s quarterfinal 5A playoff game against Covington.  The Wildcats were behind 20-14 but were marching toward the goal line.  Then, with 3rd down on Covington’s 20 yard line, Central’s Jarrad Hayes threw an interception, which stopped the drive and ended the Wildcats’ hope for a trip to the State 5A Championship at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Nevertheless, Central ended the season with a sparkling record of 11-2, including 6-0 in district play, its sixth straight District 4-5A title, and the Regional 5A championship.  Perhaps most impressive was its 14-0 shutout of West Monroe in the Regional Playoffs.
