From Disaster to Triumph: 2024 Season Has Been an Emotional Ride for Central
Saturday’s State Championship game will be the culmination of an emotional ride for the Central High Wildcats.
The season began with disaster when three of the team’s star senior players were involved in a near fatal accident. Kylen Thomas and Jackson Firmin returned to school and the playing field relatively soon but the future of Manny Williams was in doubt with a fractured hip, fractured jaw, fractured collarbone, collapsed lung, and lacerated liver.
However, Manny returned to action Nov. 29 against West Monroe and scored a last minute TD. There was not a dry eye in the stadium. Compared to what Manny has been through, winning a state championship seems like child’s play.
