Central Wildcats Host Scotlandville

The Central High Wildcats will put their undefeated 4-0 record on the line this Friday night when the Wildcats host 4-5A rivals, the Scotlandville High Hornets.  The Hornets, also 4-0, are ranked 5th in Louisiana 5A football, while Central is ranked No. 20.

Both teams are 1-0 in district competition. Their only common opponent is Southern Lab.  The Wildcats beat the Kittens 47-7, while Scotlandville beat Southern Lab 50-13.

Last week, Central traveled to Denham Springs where lightning and a severe thunderstorm almost resulted in the game being cancelled.  With 40 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, the score was tied 7-7. Central had second down on the Denham Springs’ two-yard line.

A touchdown seemed almost inevitable. But just as the Wildcats were about to go for the score that would put them ahead, a flash of lightning worried officials, and they called a 30-minute pause in play.  Not long afterwards, the light rain became a deluge. The skies opened wide!

The rain seemed to go on forever. After a delay of 90 minutes, it appeared the refs were about to call the game, but they gave it a few more minutes, and the storm passed.

Central got off to a good start in the second half and roared to a healthy lead. However, the Yellow Jackets made a comeback. By the end of the 4th quarter, Denham Springs had narrowed the lead to 30-22, before time ran out.

After Scotlandville, No. 3-ranked
