Central High’s Coach Mike Forbes: State’s Premiere 5A Baseball Coach

Central High School baseball coach and 2017 5A Coach of the Year Mike Forbes is preparing for another great season on the diamond. After winning two straight 5A State Championships, his team returns to the field Feb. 2 with a scrimmage against the St. Amant Gators at Central High School.
Forbes’ cinderella team of last year defeated Sulphur 4-0 for the State Championship in Sulphur.
Gone from the Central roster are stalwarts such as All-State Brant Husser who led the Wildcats in pitching with a 9-2 record and hits with 44. Also gone is pitcher Hunter Arnold, who defeated Sulphur in the State Championship game. Speedster Quint Guerin who led the team with 37 runs and walks with 27 also graduated.
However, significant talent will return, including Dalton Aspholm who won the semi-final game in relief in the state playoffs and had game-winning playoff hits against Zachary and Sulphur. Also back is the ever-ready Drew Lasseigne, who had a 7-2 record on the mound with a 1.72 ERA. He struck out 71 batters. Playing catcher, he had only four errors all season. Others returning include multi-talented Sam Kenerson, Brant Chauvin, and Gabe Patterson.
Forbes’ well-coached Wildcats are
likely to be the under-rated team to watch in the playoffs.
Once again, the Central City News will broadcast selected games at Central City News on Facebook.
