
Lynn Hernandez Who Owned Sullivan Hardware Honored as Great Husband, Father, Grandfather
Lynn Wayne Hernandez, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Slaughter, left this life while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024 at age 85.
Lynn was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal brother. He was giving, a role model to many with a kind heart and soul that welcomed all to his home.
He was a 1956 graduate of Baker High School, served as team captain of the football team, and was inducted into the Baker Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
Lynn went on to play football at the University of Southwest Louisiana and earned a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1962. He first coached and taught school in Kissimmee, FL, before returning home to Erath High School, where he left the profession and joined Wilson’s Wholesale Distributors. He retired as senior vice president of merchandising. In retirement, he became the owner and operator of Sullivan’s Hardware on Sullivan Road in Central.
Lynn enjoyed most being with his family, his farm, his animals, fishing, and an occasional golf game with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janell Hernandez; four children, Gwen Chauvin (Leonard), Donna Louviere (Kevin), Susan Hernandez, and Judge Todd Hernandez (Shannon).
Lynn is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ashly Singletary (Phil), Tre Chauvin (Gina), Celeste Clement (Matt), Ben Hernandez (Ashley), Brant Hernandez (Erin), Julia Grace Hernandez, and Brady Hernandez.
He was also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Lola, Royce, Mallie Ann, Tate, Hudd, Adele, Aimée, Carson, John Todd, and Lennie Jeanne; siblings, Darrell Beard, Kay Hustmuyre (Walter), Chad Beard, Mark Hernandez, and Cynthia Durr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Linden P. Hernandez, Jr., his mother, Eunice Louise Beard, and son-in-law, Charles Wesley Jones.
Visitation was held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024. Interment followed at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers were Tre Chauvin, Ben Hernandez, Brant Hernandez, Brady Hernandez, Phil Singletary, and Matt Clement. Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Porshi, Anna, Shawna, and Nina; and the staff of Clarity Hospice.
