Three Elected to RSCC

Former Central City Councilman Wayne Messina, Central City News advertising manager Kim Powers, and State Rep. Barry Ivey have been elected to represent on the Republican State Central Committee, which governs the Republican Party of Louisiana.  They are:

• WAYNE MESSINA, who served on the Central City Council for eight years, defeated Karen Connolly 1,036 to 640, or 62 percent to 38 percent, in Senate District 6 Divison D.  

• KIM POWERS won the closest race in the state in Senate District 6 Division F by defeating incumbent RSCC member Jack McAdams 963 to 962, or 50 percent to 50 percent.  The Division includes the northern part of Central, Pride, Baywood, and parts of Livingston and St. Helena Parish.  

• REP. BARRY IVEY defeated two opponents to win reelection to the committee from Senate District 6 Division E.  Ivey won 1,107 votes, or 56 percent, Cathy Craddock had 511 votes, or 26 percent, and Jolice Provost had 370 votes, or 19 percent.

The turnout in Divisions E and F were among the highest in the state and represented more than 60 percent of Republican voters in those two districts.

The Republican State Central Committee elects the leadership of the State GOP, recruits, endorses, and supports Republican candidates for public office, and raises the money needed to run the party on a day-to-day basis.  Every four years, the RSCC adopts rules for election of delegates to the Republican National Convention from Lousiana and chooses Republican candidates for membership on the Electoral College.
