Tanglewood Students Growing Garden

With the support of principal Meagan Brown, the students at Tanglewood Elementary are growing a fall/winter garden.

Raised beds were constructed in the playground area of the school so the students can water their plants during recess. The plants they are taking care of this season include varieties of kale, cabbage, cauliflower, shallots, petunias, and dianthus.

Normally in the spring the students grow pollinator plants to attract and support butterflies so they can watch the cycle of caterpillars to chrysalis to butterflies.

Students weren’t in school this past Spring but hope to have their spring gardens in 2021.

They are also planting gourds that will be harvested and dried. These gourds will be painted and sold as birdhouses as a fundraiser to support the garden.
