New Legislator  Thanks Voters, Getting Ready To Be Sworn in
CENTRAL — Since his election two weeks ago, State Rep.-elect Barry Ivey has had a high profile around Central, as he has reached out to thank voters for their support and offer assistance in the upcoming legislative session.  He was on hand at Tuesday’s Central City Council meeting to speak with city officials.
Ivey met with Gov. Bobby Jindal earlier in the week and learned more about the governor’s tax proposals.  He also met with House Speaker Chuck Kleckley and sat through an orientation session put on by the Clerk of the House, Sergeant at Arms, and House Legislative Services.
Ivey said he is negotiating for office space for a legislative office in Central and has made an offer to a prospective Legislative Assistant.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Central City Council, he spoke against a proposed ordinance to restrict candidates and their supporters from campaigning door to door without registering with the city.  He questioned the constitutionality of the proposal, which was deferred.
