Cookin’ in Central Set March 23-24 at New Site

CENTRAL — The City of Central’s premier fundraising event, Cooking’ in Central, will be held Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at their new location, 10305 Blackwater Road.

The event has raised over $1 million in the last six years, much of which has benefitted local schools.  This year’s event will benefit the Disabled Veterans Fund, the Central Community Assistance Foundation, and all Central schools.

Schedule of events includes:

• Friday, March 23 — Crawfish boil starting at 5 p.m.; performance by the Navy Brass Band from 5 to 7 p.m.; dance with music by Carbon Copy Band from 7 to 9 p.m., and two progressive auctions.

• Saturday, March 24, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Opening ceremony to include official All-Service Color Guard of the U.S. Armed Forces, dedication of permanent flag pole to all veterans, live entertainment all day provided by local schools and private groups, cook-off contests for jambalaya, fried turkey, couchon de lait, pork roast, brisket, and barbeque chicken with celebrity judges, silent auction, live auction, progressive auction, $10,000 raffle (tickets available at any Central school, Chamber of Commerce, or Ross Tire), games for kids, and food and fun for the whole family.  For information, visit www.CookingInCentral.com.  Entries for the cook-off are due by March 14, and entry forms can be found on the website.
