Parish Republican Party Endorses Lynn Coxe Graham, Paul Sawyer

A Special Election will be held on Saturday, March 14 to fill a vacancy in the Louisiana House of Representatives caused by the resignation of Rep. Paul Davis.

Davis’ House District 69 goes from the Mid-City area of Baton Rouge east to Shenandoah in St. George.  Beginning at the corner of Jefferson Highway at Government Street, the district cuts a swath of land roughly following Jefferson Highway southeast to the end of Tiger Bend Road.

The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge has made a dual endorsement of two of the four candidates in the race — Lynn Coxe Graham and Paul Sawyer.

Both will be able to advertise the fact that they are endorsed by the GOP and use the party’s logo in their advertising.

Parish Republican chairman Woody Jenkins said both candidates appeared before the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon and answered questions.  Both also complete the party’s detailed questionnaire.

Jenkins said both candidates are well qualified for the job and both have made a serious commitment to stand up for traditional values and a conservative government.

The questionnaire spans a wide range of issues from Right to Life, Right to Property, limits on taxation, family values, and local control over education.

Lynn Coxe Graham has been a leader in the Republican Party and president of the East Baton Rouge Republican Women’s Club.  She has been a loyal worker in Republican campaigns.  In business, she has been a successful realtor for the past 30 years.

Sawyer brings a wealth of governmental experience, including serving as Chief of State for both Congressman Richard Baker and Congressman Garret Graves.

He served in state government in key roles protecting the environment.  He is currently director of the Amite River Basin Commission.

The election will be held Saturday, March 14. A runoff, if necessary, will be held Saturday, April 18.
