Broome, James Bitterly Attack Each Other, Coach Sid Takes High Road in EBR Debate
If you ever want to see an example of how not to perform in a debate, watch the video from the Mayor-President debate at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on Monday, Sept. 23. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and former Rep. Ted James spent the entire debate attacking one another.
The bitterness that exists between the two Democratic candidates was downright embarrassing.
One thing was clear. It will be a cold day in hell before the Democrat who is ousted Nov. 5 supports the other Democrat in the Dec. 7 runoff against Coach Sid Edwards. Coach Sid is the Republican-endorsed candidate who is virtually assured of a spot in the runoff.
Coach Sid got to talk about his platform of fighting crime, raising police pay, hiring an additional 100 police officers, building a new parish prison removing abandoned, blighted buildings, and getting criminals, addicts, and mentally ill off the streets. He flew above the attacks and was a gentleman.
Broome and James revealed much about their prior relationship:
•Ted James served as Broome’s campaign manager.
•Broome wrote a letter of recommendation for James to be hired by the Biden administration.
•Broome promised to support James if he waited four years.
•While James had publicly supported her for years, he turned on her when he was promised hundreds of thousands of dollars from white donors.
Everything the two Democrats said was to appeal to black voters with little to appeal to white voters.
At one point, James let something slip. A far-left activist who has bitterly opposed St. George for years, James has been more conciliatory toward St. George the past few weeks. But in the debate, he dropped a bombshell. He said St. George will have to pay Baton Rouge $130 million if he is elected!
Our prediction is unchanged: Nov. 5 – Coach Sid gets 42-43%, Broome gets 34%, and James gets 22%. James has crashed with black voters and, as Kamala’s state chairman, is far too liberal for white voters. He has no chance for the runoff. Dec. 7 – James’ supporters will largely stay home. Meanwhile, Central and St. George voters will be highly motivated, and Coach Sid will win easily!
