Three Conservative Republicans Sweep Secretary of State, Treasurer, Atty. Gen.

Three conservative Republicans swept to historic statewide victories in Louisiana Nov. 18.  Nancy Landry was elected Secretary of State, Dr. John Fleming state Treasurer, and Liz Murrill Attorney General — all with landslide margins of over 65 per cent.

For Republicans, it was a sweet win that added to the GOP’s big night on Oct. 14 when Republicans were elected Governor, Lt. Governor, Agriculture Commissioner, and Insurance Commissioner.

Republican women were victorious too, electing Nancy Landry and Liz Murrill when went to high school together in Lafayette and grew up only a block apart.

For Dr. John Fleming, it was a comeback.  After serving eight years in Congress, he lost the U.S. Senate rate in 2016 to now-Sen. John Kennedy.  Fleming went on to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce under President Trump and then Assistant to President Trump in the White House. His victory in the race for Treasurer is his first statewide win.

Republicans were also pleased to replace the administration of Gov. John Bel Edwards with a slate of statewide officials remarkably more conservative than ever before. One Republican leader said, “We owe a debt of gratitude to Edwards for showing so many Louisianians that they really are Republicans.”

The statewide results were

SECRETARY OF STATE

G. Collins-Greenup (D) 221,739

Nancy Landry (R) 446,494

ATTORNEY GENERAL

Lindsey Cheek (D) 225,050

Liz Baker Murrill (R) 444,544

TREASURER

John Fleming (R) 437,763

Dustin Granger (D) 231,002

The results in East Baton Rouge Parish were even more remarkable because the parish mostly votes Democratic:
