Rep. Richard Nelson Drops Out of Race For Governor, Backs Atty. Gen. Jeff Landry

State Rep. Richard Nelson (R-Mandeville) has abandoned his race for governor in the Oct. 14 primary. Instead, he has decided to support Attorney General Jeff Landry, the candidate for governor endorsed by the Republican Party of Louisiana and the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Nelson is an attorney who has served one term in the House, gaining a reputation as a moderate Republican largely because of his stand on legalizing marijuana and some social issues.  He previously served in the diplomatic field.

Rep. Nelson has reportedly applied to be the new president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.
