Atty. Gen. Jeff Landry Calls for Restraints On Power of Louisiana Governors in Address

REMARKS BY JEFF LANDRY, Attorney General of Louisiana — CENTRAL — Good morning!  What a beautiful morning!  I’m reminded of how much rain we’ve had over the last three or four years.  I remember people saying when is it going to stop?  I said all I know is it will stop and the Lord is going to let the sun shine!  It’s amazing that at the same time that it stopped raining, we got to see all these beautiful, shining faces, because for now, the masks are all gone!

It is my pleasure to be here today.  I can tell you, Kim, that having Alvin Singletary as your step dad and your mom, Miss Judy, you come from a family of servant leaders.  In order to serve our public, you must be not just a leader but a servant leader.  There’s a big difference between being a leader and being a servant leader, because a servant leader is someone who goes above and beyond.

Today is also a great day because this is the beginning of something you are going to see not only here in Central but across this country. It is high time for the people to start taking control of their educational system.  It is through the education of our young folks that the foundations of America will be preserved.

All of us including me have failed to some extent.  We’ve always believed that those in leadership either at the school board level or higher were there to serve us as servant leaders.  But we look back today and see that perhaps there were shortcomings.  We’re seeing it evident in our school systems.

I believe there is a revival coming in this country, and it is actually going to start at the school board level.  You know, the one thing I have so much faith in is mothers.  My mother was a strong woman!

We are winning the battle!

Kim, you will become a brick in the wall — a person to stand in the gap — and insure that the victories we are piling up continue.  It is an important role. You now have the opportunity to shape the education of the children of this parish.

If every school board member across this country would take that responsibility and say that my goal, sitting in this position, is simply to insure that the children’s lives are shaped in a productive manner, this country would not be in the position we are in today.

Yes, we are winning!  The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals gave a loud rebuke, telling the federal government that it does not belong between people and their doctors when it comes to health care choices.

We in the Louisiana Department of Justice will continue to litigate this issues, no matter what it takes.

We will not back down.  We will consistently stand up with you, Kim, and your peers.  So, Kim, I come here today to commit to you that our office and our staff, including Solicitor General Liz Murrill, will stand with you and every other school board member in this state, when it comes to respecting parental choice — whether it’s vaccines or divisive policies like CRT.

We want to insure that students understand that they do not leave their First Amendment right to practice their religion at the doorstep of the school.  We will stand with you!

So it is with great honor and pleasure that I ask you to come up and we can swear you in — in front of God and these beautiful people.  We will begin as it is supposed to start with the Bible.
