Central City News Editor Named At-Large Elector

As everyone learns in Civics class, the President and Vice President of the United States are elected not by the voters but by members of the Electoral College, who are chosen by the voters.

Each state has one member of the Electoral College for each Congressional District and two at-large members. As a result, Louisiana has eight Electors. As provided by the U.S. Constitution and federal law, the Electoral College will meet Dec. 14, 2020, at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge and cast Louisiana’s votes for President and Vice President. In February, the Republican State Central Committee of Louisiana chose the eight Republican candidates for Elector who will serve if Donald Trump as expected once again carries Louisiana.

One of the two at-large candidates for Elector will be Central City News editor Woody Jenkins.

Jenkins served for 28 years as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. As a delegate to the Louisiana Constitutional Convention in 1973, he authored the Declaration of Rights in the current Louisiana Constitution. He served as State Chairman for Donald Trump’s campaign in Louisiana in 2016 and has served for eight years as Re-

publican Party parish chairman.

Jenkins said, “I am deeply humbled to be given this responsibility and would like to express appreciation to Republican state chairman Louis Gurvich, the Executive Committee of the state party, and the members of the Republican State Central Committee. I would be proud to cast one of our state’s votes to reelect President Trump and Vice President Pence. Perhaps someday when the Electoral College comes up in school, our grandchildren will say, ‘Oh yes my grandfather was a member of the Electoral College!’” Jenkins released a photo of himself at Istrouma High — “The great school to which I owe so much!”
