Lemonade Day Builds Entrepreneurship

Last weekend, Central Square was bustling with lemonade stands — 43 of them — as students from Central Intermediate School tried their hand at starting and running a business.

Lemonade Day is a free, statewide program founded by Todd Graves of Raising Cane’s and John Georges to help kids learn more about how to start and operate their own businesses.

Last Saturday was the 5th Annual Lemonade Day, and students at Central Intermediate School went all-out to make it a success.  With a lot of help from parents and teachers, the youngsters launched 43 new businesses — all lemonade stands — and set them up around Central Square at the intersection of Sullivan and Wax roads.

The students competed to have the best tasting lemonade in the best possible booth.  And they outdid themselves!  Judges, who included Central Mayor Jr. Shelton and Central Chamber president Ron Erickson, said the competition was incredible, and it was tough to make a decision.

All the profits went to a charitable organization of the students’ choosing, and their charity was part of each booth’s draw.  A great time was had by all, and many kids said they can’t wait for next year!
