Washington vs. Ellis
Voters in Central went to the polls April 5 and elected a new Mayor, Police Chief, and four members of the Central City Council. However, the fifth Council seat was left unfilled because none of the remaining seven candidates received an outright majority. The fifth-ranked candidate, Central Mayor Pro-Tem Ralph Washington, received 3,625 votes, about 50 short of a majority. Running sixth was civil engineer and Army veteran Jason Ellis, who received 3,071, or about 650 votes short of a majority. Washington has nine years on the Council while Ellis is a youthful first-time candidate.
