City of Central Independence Day Set July 11
The Central City Council voted Tuesday to recognize July 11 as “Central Independence Day,” in honor of the swearing in of the city’s first Mayor and City Council on July 11, 2005.
Councilman Louis DeJohn said the date should be remembered in Central history and should be a day of celebration. The City of Central is one of Louisiana’s newest municipalities but has a population of more than 27,000, which makes it the 12th largest city in Louisiana. By comparison, Hammond has 19,000 people.
