Sherri Morris Resigns as School Board Counsel

CENTRAL — Baton Rouge attorney Sherri Morris has resigned as legal counsel for the Central Community School Board effective April 22.

Morris reportedly informed Central schools Supt. Mike Faulk of her decision last week.

Faulk said the school board wants to review all of its professional services contracts.  The school board currently has a legal counsel, a bond counsel, and a special counsel.  Morris, who has been legal counsel since the creation of the school board, handles day-to-day legal issues.  The bond counsel handles matters related to the issuance of bonds, and the special counsel handles specialized education issues.  Faulk said he expects to issue Requests for Proposals for all three counsel.

One school board member said Monday he favors hiring a full-time attorney, instead of retaining counsel on an hourly basis as Morris has been.
