Moak Leads Effort for Flood Study

CENTRAL— The Central City Council Tuesday approved spending $35,000 for a study that Councilman Aaron Moak hopes will ultimately result in lower flood insurance rates.  The study would encompass the Beaver Bayou watershed between Beaver Bayou and the Amite River using current FEMA mapping standards.  At a Council meeting two weeks ago, Councilman Wayne Messina had asked for more information on the proposed study, but he said Tuesday that most of his questions had been answered.  If successful, the study could take two or more years to yield lower rates.
