Santorum Has Momentum After Alabama, Mississippi

Rick Santorum Hopes Conservative Voters in Central Will Turn Out For Presidential Bid

By Woody Jenkins, Editor

CENTRAL — Our City of Central will be the center of national media attention Sunday when former Sen. Rick Santorum arrives here for a 6 p.m. speech at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.

Santorum, an ardent conservative, has the momentum in the race for the GOP Presidential nomination after his big victories in Alabama and Mississippi on Tuesday.

One thing about Santorum that is truly amazing is the fact that Gov. Mitt Romney has hit him with millions of dollars in negative attack ads — most of which are unfair and misleading — and, yet, Santorum keeps right on winning.

The campaign is proving what a resilient figure Santorum is.

The thought of  such a handsome, articulate young man winning the Republican nomination must scare the pants off the Democrats.

The Democrats and the moderate Republican establishment keep saying that Romney is the strongest candidate against Obama.

But that is downright wrong.

The election this fall will be decided by blue-collar Democrats and blue-collar independents — exactly the kind of voters Santorum most appeals to.

He is a blue-collar guy, and they love him.  On the other hand, Gov. Romney has just the opposite appeal.  He appeals to the country club set, and he doesn’t turn blue collar voters on at all.   The myth that Gov. Romney is the “most electable” Republican is ridiculous.  Of course, the media love Romney right now, because they understand how vulnerable he is on Romneycare, the bailouts, and job creation.  If he gets the nomination, you will see the media turn on him in a heartbeat, and you’ll see them paint a very different picture of Romney.

America hasn’t seen a candidate like Santorum since JFK.  He is young, handsome, articulate, and genuine.  With a beautiful wife and seven great children in the White House, he would be a formidable President indeed.

I can see Santorum turning our nation around, giving us hope and a great vision for the future.

With Santorum’s humble origins, he is truly an All-American solution to an American problem.

Today we are on the verge of going the way of every great civilization — into the abyss of decline and destruction.  Perhaps this young man can lead the way toward a rebirth of the American spirit.  We’ll have the chance to vote for him March 24, and we’re glad he’s coming to Central.

Welcome, senator!
