Mayor Mac Watts Says Sales Taxes Continue to Grow

As Mayor, I look forward to another year of economic growth in Central.  Sales tax revenues have increased, compared to the first half of the last fiscal year, and we look for this trend to continue with the growth of new commercial developments.  We had ten new commercial building permits in 2011 and 136 new residential permits.  We will continue to promote “Shop in Central” to support our local businesses.  The growth in sales taxes shows that our citizens are shopping locally more than in the past, which is good news for our local businesses.  We will continue to focus on increasing our economic development functions for new businesses in Central to provide services and goods for which our citizens have asked.   I feel that our City is swimming upstream in a downstream economy and look forward to continued growth in our economic future.
