Five Central Councilmen Will Decide Official Position of Central on Loop
CENTRAL — The Livingston Parish Council recently adopted a resolution strongly opposing the Baton Rouge Loop. Now the ball is in Central’s court, and the Central City Council will have the opportunity to take an official position on behalf of the City of Central.
Councilman Wayne Messina has introduced a resolution opposing the Loop and said yesterday he intends to bring the resolution to a vote at the City Council meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Kristenwood. Citizens will be able to speak for or against the Loop when that resolution is considered. The Federal Highway Administration is about to make a decision on whether to approve the Loop. If FHWA approval is granted, the Loop commission will have full authority to build the Loop. It will be able to use any available funds for that purpose, such as stimulus money from the Obama administration and loans from Chinese banks. The Council meeting may be the last opportunity for residents to express their views on the Loop.
