R. J. Saucier, a Founder of City of Central, 86

Randolph Joseph (R.J.) Saucier, born 4/24/39, in Houma, left a long, full life on 11/17/25. Born to Robert F. Saucier of Saucier, MS, and Inez M. Brunet of Houma.

R.J. grew up in Watson with siblings Catherine Norris, Arnold Saucier, and Elaine Stevens.

He was educated at LSU and Tulane. After four years on active duty in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, R.J. enjoyed a successful career as a petroleum/mechanical engineer in research and production with Shell Development-Oil Company.

Even more important to him than his career was his family. R.J. and Patricia Amond Saucier were married for almost 60 years, before her passing.

Together they enjoyed rearing their three children, Randall Patrick Saucier (Jenny), Cheli Marie Saucier, and Rebecca Lynn Owen-Saucier (Terry).

R.J. loved developing the family property to host child and family gatherings. He cut trails in the woods, built tree houses, pond rafts, and more. Family Easter egg hunts were epic!

He especially wanted his property to be enjoyed by his grandchildren, Ben Saucier (Anna), Amanda Story (Tommy), Jessica Roberson, Samantha Roberson, and great-grands, Reed and Luke Saucier.

Being an active citizen, R.J. was instrumental in developing the City of Central, faithfully attending almost every meeting and serving as a strong and independent voice for protecting the people of Central and doing the right thing.

After retirement, R.J. developed a love and talent for wood carving.

He found comfort in his faith and enjoyed studying the Bible.

In recent years, R. J. found companionship with Lena Lestrapes, dancing, working in the yard, and participating in general shenanigans.

A visitation took place on Thursday, November 20 at Central Funeral Home followed by a memorial service.
