Mayors Jr. Shelton, David Barrow Reflect on Their Tenures as Mayor

David Barrow Mayor, City of Central (2019-2023)

I enjoyed my tenure with the City of Central from starting off as chairman of the first Planning & Zoning Commission in 2005 to becoming Chief Administrative Officer in 2007 under Mayor Mac Watts (the best Mayor Central has ever had) to becoming Mayor in 2019.  It was a blessing to be with the city from the beginning and watching our government evolve. 

I am most proud of the Watts administration and my administration following the citizens’ Master Plan to control growth and involving the citizens in the process by conducting numerous public meetings and listening to the people.  Public input was and still is essential.  The residents of Central want to maintain their suburban, rural atmosphere. 

I am also proud of developing excellent relationships and projects with other agencies including City-Parish, DOTD, and BREC.   Much was accomplished during my time with these agencies, as well as preparing the foundation for future projects. 

Special thanks to former city attorney Sherri Morris, P&Z attorney Mark Balkin, The Moore Planning Group, and the great personnel at IBTS and City Hall for each of their roles in helping lead this city.

I thank God everyday for the men and women who gave their time, money and expertise to develop Central into the thriving, bustling city it is today. 

Congratulations to Mayor Evans and the City Council for the outstanding work y’all have done to keep Central as one of the best cities in America! 

I was fortunate to lead this city from 2014-2019. I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best of the best. 

The flood of 2016 was a remarkable event in the life of Central, but to see our city recover so well is a testament to the resiliency of its citizens. 

Neighbors helping neighbors! 

Central’s best days are ahead of us, and I for one am committed to the life and health of Central.
