Tragic Loss for Beloved Central Family With Close Ties to Law Enforcement

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Anna Mae Dipuma Welborn, passed away at age 90 on May 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Central.  She joined her husband, Capt. John C. Welborn, Sr., who passed away June 17, 2022, and her sons Billy Welborn who passed away March 13, 2021, and Wade Welborn, who passed away Sept. 13, 2022.

Mrs. Welborn’s death was a tragic loss for the Welborn family and Central.  Four of the seven members of their immediate family have died in the last two years.

Members of the Welborn family are well known for their smiling faces and devotion to duty at the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office and the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Anna Mae too was a member of law enforcement, having served as a school crossing guard commissioned by the Sheriff for over 25 years.

Mrs. Welborn leaves behind her sons John Coker Welborn, Jr., Doug Welborn, and Jimmy Welborn and his wife Tammy.  She also leaves behind grandchildren Erica Welborn Malone and husband Ryan; Lindsey Welborn; Blake Welborn; Skylar Welborn, Colby Welborn, and Piper Welborn.  Also great-grandchildren Gabriel Malone, Dulcie Malone, and Juniper Malone; a sister Betty Hidalgo, and numerous nieces and nephews.  John C. Sr. and Anna Mae also lost a daughter, Darlene Anne, at the time of her birth. She was one of the triplets born with Billy and Jimmy.

Anna Mae Dipuma Welborn was remembered in services at Central Funeral Home and graveside at Galilee Baptist Church.
