City of Central Drainage Projects Update

Central Mayor David Barrow reports that the City of Central has completed nearly 53 miles of off-road drainage cleaning, clearing, and excavation in the past two years since July 1, 2019 across the city. This work includes numerous capital improvements projects. This work is in addition to normal roadside ditch maintenance. 

These projects are all off-road drainage maintenance. 

2021-2022 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2021 – June 31, 2022): In the first six weeks of this fiscal year, crews have performed maintenance on approximately 3.79 miles of off-road ditches. This includes clearing and cleaning 3.17 miles of ditches city-wide and excavation of nearly 0.62 miles of off-road ditches in the Oakberry, Morgan Place, and Tanglewood subdivisions. 2020-2021 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021): In this fiscal year, crews performed work on approximately 22.18 miles of off-road ditches. This includes clearing and cleaning of nearly 17.71 miles of off-road ditches and excavation of 4.47 miles of ditches. This includes off-road capital improvement projects near Devall Rd in several locations, 22000 Greenwell Springs Rd, 14800 Hubbs Rd, Hwy 64 west of Indian Mound, Summers Lane, Willowwood Acres, Bellingrath Estates, Cimmaron, Tanglewood, Jackson Place/CMS, Dyer Rd/Brown Rd, Denham/Devall Rd, Village Lakes, Bridlewood, 9400 Blackwater Rd, Boganvilla, Hampton Village, Plantation Way/Littlefield, 11200 Joor Rd, Washington Ln, Biltmore, Oakberry, and the cleaning of all underground pipes in Jackson Park subdivision.

2019-2020 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020): In this fiscal year, crews performed work on approximately 26.71 miles of off-road ditches. This includes clearing and cleaning of nearly 20.74 miles of off-road ditches and excavation of nearly 5.97 miles of ditches. This includes off-road capital improvement projects near 14100 Lovett, Huntington Park, Huntley Place, 16900 Planchet, Proche subdivision, Crystal Place, 10900 Hooper, Comite Hills, 25100 Greenwell Springs Rd, Lovett Rd culvert replacement, Indian Mound, Comite Hills West, McCullough Rd culvert, 15900 Hooper, Oakberry, 13100 Hooper, Washington Ln, Rambling Oaks, Village Lakes, Bridlewood, Frenchtown Rd, Northwoods, Core Ln, Alford Acres, Wood Creek, Plantation Way, Oak Cluster, Lighthouse Lakes, Jackson Place, Biltmore, Jackson Park, Hubbs Acres.

In the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year, the city has contracted with CES to perform inspections and cleaning of all underground drainage structures throughout the city. You will be seeing them in every neighborhood and area of the city throughout the coming year. 

Also, a nearly $400,000 capital improvements project is underway along Brown Rd in the northwestern part of Central to improve roadside ditches and culvert improvements. Additional projects are being scheduled.

Residents can assist the city by making sure ditches on your property are kept clean and free of debris and not depositing leaves, grass clippings and other trash in ditches.
