Can You Identify These Photos of Central Veterans and Help Return Them to Family?

When the American Farmhouse restaurant opened on Hooper Road in 2013, few could have anticipated the tragedies that would befall the friendly, family-run business. Like so many Central residents, Cristal and Charles Hebert lost their home in the flood of Aug. 13, 2016. But they also lost their restaurant when American Farmhouse flooded. The couple went to work to salvage what they could and were ready to reopen in late September of that year. Before reopening they took a trip to visit friends in North Carolina. On the way back, Charles was killed in a tragic automobile accident, and Cristal was badly injured. In the aftermath, Gil Matherne, who owns the building where the American Farmhouse was located, inherited some of the contents of the restaurant.  Cristal and Charles Hebert loved veterans, and they decided to decorate the wall of the restaurant with photos of Central veterans. Some of the photos were damaged or destroyed by the flood but most survived.

Gil Matherne has them and wants to give family members a chance to retrieve photos of their loved ones, in case other photos of the veterans were destroyed during the flood.

If any of the photos in this week’s Central City News are of your family member and you would like to claim the photo, please email the Central City News at centralcitynews@hotmail.com.

You can pick up your photo at Mr. Matherne’s office. All unclaimed photos will be donated to the Central Veterans Memorial.  Also, even if you are not a family member and can identify any of the veterans, please send that information to the Central City News at centralcitynews@hotmail.com.
