Leo G. Summers Celebrates 100th Birthday

 Leo G. Summers celebrated his 100th birthday this past weekend. He was born on January 10, 1920. A World War II veteran, he served in Casa Blanca. Leo and seven of his brothers were in the war at the same time. 

Leo is one of 13 children of Jabus Harney and Alma Mary Blanchard Summers and the only living sibling. His brothers were Harney, Lyle, Amos, Pierce, Lawrence, Lewis, Malcolm, and Edward. His sisters were Katie, Lila Mae, Maude, and one who died as a young child. He has many nieces and nephews. 

Leo was married to Thelma Helen LeSage Summers 66 years, and they had four children — Richard, Rodney, Leo M. (Butch), and Beverly Sunmers. He has five grandchildren — Michael Summers, Waylon Summers, Debbie Summers Crawford, Crystel Robinson, and  T.J. Robinson. He has many great-grandchildren. 

Leo attended Central High School and was Postmaster in Greenwell Springs. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He owned Summers Brothers, a construction company on Sullivan Road for many years. 

His birthday celebration was held at The Cedar Room on Greenwell Springs Road on January 11 and was attended by more than 100 family and friends.
