Cole Browning Honored for His Courage, Perseverance

he Janet L. Barnes ACE. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award honors graduating high school seniors who have persevered in overcoming some personal challenge or obstacle, which might have deterred a lesser determined individual.   The A.C.E. Award is a National Exchange Club project participated in by hundreds of Exchange Clubs around the country.

This year, Cole Browning of Central Private was one of three students from area high schools who were recognized as A.C.E. Award winners.  Seven judges reviewed all of the nominations submitted and after rank ordering them, Cole was in the top three.  The local award is named after Janet Barnes, a past president of the Exchange Club of Baton Rouge who supported the club’s youth award projects with her time, energy and money.  Janet fought a courageous battle against Leukemia, but passed away in January 2011.  The award is named after her because of the courage and positive attitude she displayed throughout her illness.
