Central Marine Buried/Marine Lance Cpl. Taylor Conrad Known for Big Heart

Thousands of Central and Zachary residents turned out this week to mourn the passing of Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Taylor Conrad, who was killed in a helicop-
ter training mission in California.
Conrad was a highly respected 2012 graduate of Central High School, where he played football, baseball, powerlifting, and wrestling. Despite his tough exterior, Conrad had a reputation for befriending special needs children, often those who have difficulty communicating or who lack social skills. “Taylor loved them and just treated them as people,” his grandfather Charlie Wimberly said. Some youngsters who wouldn’t respond to anyone else responded to Taylor, Wimberly said.
Taylor’s mother Dawn Conrad, who works at Central High, survives Taylor. His father passed away earlier this year.
In an outpouring of love and respect, thousands of Central and Zachary residents turned out to honor Lance Cpl. Conrad. They lined the street as the hearse carrying his body traveled to the cemetery.
