The State of the City

The State of the City

In Central’s first-ever State of the City address, Mayor Jr. Shelton outlined his activities over the past six months and his plans for the next four years. The Mayor spoke before the Baton Rouge media, many of Central’s elected officials, and others gathered at the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge at Café Américain on Jefferson Highway.

Shelton praised former Mayor Mac Watts for leaving the city in good financial shape and the previous Council for adopting a Master Plan and zoning regulations. As result, the Mayor said, Central is ‘open for business’ and can pursue economic development

as never before.  The biggest obstacle is creating the right infrastructure, he said.
