CHS Volleyball Team in Quarter-Finals

Central High School athletic director and head football Coach Sid Edwards isn’t shy about how he feels about the school’s varsity volleyball team.

“They are the pride and joy of Central,” he said, “and they have the potential to win the State Championship!”

The Lady Wildcats won the State Regional Championship Monday, defeating Sam Houston 3-1.  It was a hard-fought victory over an outstanding opponent, just the kind of win coach Michele Le-

Bouef would want to launch Central into the 2015 AllState Sugar Bowl/LHSAA state volleyball tournament.  It all begins for Central at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when the Lady Wildcats face Belle Chasse in Quarterfinal action.

Central (37-6) is seeded No. 4 in the tournament, while Belle Chasse (36-6) is seeded No. 5.  Eight teams remain in the competition.

Central High is led by Jordan Stephens, an All-State prospect.  In Monday’s victory over Sam Houston, Stephens had 16 kills and six digs.  Natalie Fox had 10 kills, and Kaitlynn Cooke had 33 assists, seven digs, and two aces.

In volleyball, a “kill” is a hit immediately resulting in a point or out. A “dig” is diving deep to pass a spiked or fast-moving ball close to the floor. And an “assist” is helping a teammate set up a kill.
