Three Central School Board Seats Up Nov. 4

All seven members of the Central Community School Board are up for reelection on Tuesday, Nov. 4, but four of the members of the board are unopposed.

Facing opponents are school board vice president Will Easley in District 4; school board member Ruby Foil in District 6, and former school board president Sharon Browning in District 7.

They are opposed by Philip Ziegler in District 4, Nick Carmena in District 6, Felicia Braud in District 7.  All are Republicans except Carmena, who is listed as No Party.

It is the first time to run for office for all of the challengers.  However, Carmena does have a political connection.  He is the brother in law of City Councilman Jason Ellis.

The three incumbent board members with opposition have all served in their positions since the Central school system was founded in early 2007.  They point to the success of Central schools, which are now ranked No. 2 in the state and the Central School Complex as evidence of the job they are doing.

The challengers say it is time for new blood on the board.  Some of the challengers have also criticized Common Core, but incumbent board members say that is imposed by the State of Louisiana.
