Istrouma High Class of 1964 Holds 50-Year Class Reunion, Remembers

– More than 200 surviving members of the Istrouma High School Class of 1964 gathered for their 50-year reunion July 11-12 at Holiday Inn South in Baton Rouge. Activities began with an informal reception Friday night and ended with a formal banquet on Saturday. During the banquet, the group lit candles honoring 72 of their classmates who have passed away, including two who were killed in the Vietnam War — Joe Catoir and Deryl Kirkwood. The group mourned the loss of well known journalist and professor Dr. Bob Dardenne who died of a heart attack last November.  Dardenne was president of the Istrouma student body. The group, which includes many prominent Baton Rougeans, enjoyed the presence of retired Istrouma coach Leon McGraw.  The basketball team held a reunion Saturday,
