Life Tabernacle Will Celebrate 100 Years of Pentecostalism

The Azusa Street  Revival began in Los Angeles in 1906 and gave birth to the modern Pentecostal movement.  That movement spread east and south.

In 1914, the Pentecostal movement reached Louisiana.

This weekend, Life Tabernacle Church, corner Hooper and Blackwater, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Pentecostal movement in Louisiana.  Pentecostal leaders from across the state and nation will gather at the church for a weekend of activities.

Pastor Tony Spell will host the services Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  On Thursday night, Spell will moderate a forum on the history of the Pentecostal church.  The service Friday night will feature music by the Larry Booker quartet.  Nate Wilson of San Francisco will speak at the Sunday services.

Brother Spell has more than a passing interest in the 100th anniversay.  His great-grandmother was the first Louisiana woman baptized in a Pentecostal church in this state.
