Central High Is 5th-Best Track Power in State 5A

Competing at the Louisiana State 5A Track & Field Championship Saturday, the Central High track team had the second fastest sprinters in the state.

The Wildcats ran the

4×100-meter relay in 42.0 seconds — fast enough to win 2nd place in Class 5A but also the second-fastest time in all five classes at the three-day meet.

The winning team was Dillon Brumfield, Craig Jones, Donnie Lewis, and Gary Trip-lett.  In 2013, Central won 4th place with a time of 42.68, but Leo Brownfeld ran in place of Donnie Lewis.

This year, Brumfield, Jones, Lewis, and Triplett won 4th place in the 2×200 relay with a time of 1:28.78. Craig Jones won 1st place in State 5A in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet 4-1/4 inches.  He also won 3rd place in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet 2-1/2.

Gary Triplett anchored the 4×100 relay that won 2nd place, ran 6th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.91, placed 8th in the 200 meters with 22.61, and ran a leg on the 2×200 relay which won 4th place.

In addition to the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, Dillon Brumfield won 4th place in the 200 meters with 22.21. Jordin Williams won 7th place at the state meet in the high jump with a leap of 6’2”.
