Letter to the Editor on Central City News

Dear Editor, The Central City News under the leadership of its editor Woody Jenkins had a significant part in creating the City of Central and the Central Community School System.  I agree with you (City of Central Founder Looks Back, CCN, July 25, 2019) that a hardy band of Central residents led by Russell Starns spearheaded this endeavor, but without the support of the citizens of Central, the city and school system would not exist.  Let me explain.

Thomas Paine was an American writer whose writings influenced the American Revolution and helped pave the way for the founding of the United States of America.  His words inspired the citizens  of the original colonies to support and participate in the revolution.   He communicated directly to the citizens what our founding fathers were attempting to do.

To get the support of the citizens of Central, word of mouth was not enough.  Somebody had to step up and communicate directly to the people what Mr. Starns and others were attempting to do.  As you well know, The Advocate and its editors were greatly opposed to the new city and school system.  No information from that paper.  In the early stages and throughout the process, the Central City News kept us informed and supported our founders and elected officials.  I want to recognize the major part that your paper and you played in this endeavor.  I  believe that the City of Central and the Central Community School  System would not exist today without your voice.

Alvin A. Guidry, Central

Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated!
