Republican Party Endorses Jr. Shelton for Mayor of Central

The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish has endorsed Central Mayor Jr. Shelton for reelection in the Nov. 6 election.
The announcement came from Sen. Dan Claitor, Endorsement Chairman for the Nov. 6 election. Claitor said Shelton has distinguished himself by his unblemished record of honesty and integrity and his refusal to raise taxes.
“At a time when some public officials bring dishonor to their office and their community, Central can be proud of the character of its Mayor, Jr. Shelton, who is recognized as a man of integrity,” Sen. Claitor said.
“Under Mayor Shelton’s administration, Central has run surpluses every year and now has more than $40 million in the bank. In addition, Mayor Shelton has secured more than $100 million for drainage projects in Central, ensuring that the city will be better protected in the future.
Endorsements are considered by the 17-member East Baton Rouge Republican Parish Executive Committee, which was elected by the Republican voters of the parish in March of Presidential election years. One member is elected from each Metro Council district and five are elected at large parishwide.
Sen. Claitor said each Republican candidate in Central — David Barrow, Marc Michelli, and Jr. Shelton — was sent the party’s official candidate questionnaire. Michelli and Shelton answered the questions. Barrow did not.
The candidates’ answers are found on Pages 4 and 7 of this issue of the Central City News.
The committee also endorsed the following candidates:
• Secretary of State – Rep. Rick Edmonds
• Congress – Garret Graves
• Baton Rouge City Judge – Chris Hester

• Baton Rouge City Constable Trey Bargas

• East Baton Rouge Parish School Board District 6 – Jill Dyason

• East Baton Rouge Parish School Board District 7 – Mike Gaudet
