Charles Habig Announces for Council District 1

Charles Habig issued the following statement in connection with his candidacy for Central City Council from District 1:
First and foremost, I am very excited and proud to announce my candidacy for the City of Central City Council District 1. I have been a resident of Central City, Louisiana for 19 years and have recently retired from Local Union 198 after 43 years of service. During my time there, I worked as a welder until I became the 198 Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship School Coordinator, and finished my career serving as the La Union Business Agent.
Since having retired, I have recently accepted a position at Central High School as the new welding instructor for the upcoming 2018 school year. I am hoping the passion I have for teaching welding will be an asset to our city’s youth, and I am very excited about passing down my experience and knowledge of the trade to give back to the kids in our community.
The love I have for this city can best be described as “family”. Upon moving here, I lived with my wife and our three children for six years before my wife, Lynda, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. I am still so grateful for how this community wrapped their loving arms around my family and me during that difficult time in our lives. Now, along with the support of my children (Lindsey, Lacey, Trey, Alyssa) and girlfriend (Cindie Coghlan) I am hoping to fulfill God’s will and be there for this community just as they were there for me.
This election is about our beloved city, the deep rooted values we have, and the improvements still left to be made. I will be so honored to serve this city and the wonderful community we have. I will do so with the promise that my presence on the city council would not only serve as a voice of reason and leadership, but also strongly represent industry, education, and a new light shed on the old, hardworking, “blue-collared” ways this city was built by and still holds a good part of.
