2017-2018 Students of the Year

On Monday, the Central Community School Board honored Students of the Year at each of Central’s five public schools. Supt. Jason Fountain presented the outstanding students with plaques, and local businesses presented gifts.
Winners were:
• Justin Nikoka, Student of the Year at Central High School. Justin, who is Central’s first National Merit Finalist, is the son of Chris and Kimberly Nijoka. He is Student Council treasurer and president of Mu Alpha Theta. He plans to study chemical engineering at Texas A&M or LSU.
• Lauren Lindsay, Student of the Year at Central Middle School, is a member of the Beta Club, band, and soccer team. She said, “Central is a community that takes care of each other and works hard. I want to show people that is what family looks like.”
• Ava Elizabeth Nehring, Student of the Year at Central Intermediate School, loves reading, softball, dance, and time with family. She has been on the A Honor Roll since the first grade. Her mom Aimee is a 4th grade teacher at Central Intermediate. She plans to be an attorney.
• Baylee Osborne, Student of the Year at Tanglewood Elementary. She is 7 and is in Gift and Talented Theater and Talented Music. She is creative and curious. Her sister Allison was named Student of the Year last year.
• Elizabeth Dame, Student of the Year at Bellingrath Hills Elementary, is a determined little girl. She sets ambitious goals for herself then does what it takes to accomplish them. After surviving a horrific car crash that left her unable to walk, Elizabeth taught herself to walk again. As her teacher, Mrs. Robinson said. “She is literally a walking miracle.” Elizabeth said, “I want to be a doctor so I can help make people happy and get them out of the hospital.”
