Mayor Jr. Shelton on Christmas in Central

Central Mayor Jr. Shelton said in an interview that Saturday, Dec. 2 was one of the great days in the history of Central. “It was a wonderful time with beautiful weather, a big turnout for the Christmas Parade, the outstanding turnout for the Nick Tullier fundraiser, and 8,000 attending Christmas at Central Square!” Then the snow came. “It was transformative! So beautiful and a prelude to celebrating our Savior’s birth!” he said.
The mayor said the people of Central are really coming together, and 2018 is poised to be a great year.
Shelton said Central will have a new city hall soon. Bids will be let for the facility, which will be located at the corner of Hooper and Sullivan roads facing Sullivan. The 18,000 square foot facility will have a Council Chamber and space for the city’s contractor. The chamber will be shared with the school board until the school board builds its own facility, which could be on the same corner but facing Hooper Road.
The City of Central will receive bids from prospective city contractors on Jan. 9. The master contract is currently held by IBTS. Four companies are expected to submit bids, including IBTS, CSRS, Michael Baker International, and H&O Investments. Shelton said he is happy with the job being done by IBTS but that it is time to re-bid the contract.
The City of Central is receiving $13.7 million in federal funds for hazardous mitigation, Shelton said.
