School Board Begins Search To Fill Shoes Of Supt. Faulk

Central schools Supt. Mike Faulk last month announced his plan to retire Dec. 31, and this week the Central Community School Board began a search for his replacement.
But in his office this week, Supt. Faulk showed no signs of slowing down. Instead, he was busy announcing the success of Central students in the latest rounds of testing and announcing numerous new initiatives for the school system.
In addition to the success of Central High students in ACT and AP testing (see story below), Central elementary school students also were near the top statewide. For example, Central’s 6th graders were No. 2 in the state in science, No. 2 in math, and No. 4 in English language arts.
• Central refinanced school tax bonds, saving taxpayers $500,000.
• New school buses will be arriving this weekend, all with AC and video cameras on board.
• A new math and social studies series is coming for elementary.
• New science resources are coming for Grades 3-8.
• Central High has a new parking lot.
• Parking has been improved at Wildcat Stadium.
• The system is working to improve employees’ health insurance.
Enrollment is now at 4,661, up from 4,530 February 1.
