Sen. Bodi White Hoping to Unite Central This Fall

Sen. Bodi White, a native of Central, announced his candidacy for Mayor-President in the Nov. 8 primary at a well-attended news conference where many local political leaders endorsed his bid for the parish’s highest office.

White’s strategy for the primary involves uniting voters in Central and in Southeast Baton Rouge which he represents in the State Senate. A solid vote from those two areas could be enough to thrust him into a Dec. 10 runoff where he would be most likely to face a Democrat. Many of White’s supporters think that would be former Sen. Sharon Weston Broome.

Since the consolidated City-Parish government was founded in 1949, Central has never elected a Mayor-President, and White is hoping to make history. So far, many in Central are rallying to his cause.
