Central Schools Tax Renewal Saturday

Central school Supt. Mike Faulk and the Central Community School Board have proposed renewing the school system property tax. It was originally 38.45 mills, but the board is asking voters to renew it for 10 years at a lower rate — 32.5 mills —in an election this Saturday, March 5. The tax is dedicated to funding the general operations of the school system and maintenance of the school district’s facilities.  The school funding pro-position is not a new tax, and it will not increase what taxpayers currently pay.

Central is the No. 5 rank-ed school system in the state.  It has almost doubled in size since being founded in 2007. The school board used a separate tax to build a $46 million school complex on Sullivan Road, which is now home to more than 2,000 students who attend Central Intermediate and Central Middle School. The school board says it has used public funds wisely in creating one of the top school systems in the state and building a state-of-the-art school facility. School board members say they have earned the trust of taxpayers and are well justified in seeking this renewal.
